Invisible Man
2005
PERFORMANCE, VIDEO
DURATION: 5:16
Invisible Man recreates the prologue Ralph Ellison’s 1947 novel, which opens in a basement stealthily wired with electricity from the city. Echoing the novel, the video captures the artist immersed in darkness, as he is exposed gradually to more electric light, one bulb at a time. The intense brightness becomes too much for the digital camera to process, and the artist’s image is blown into a consequential white-out.
