In a gritty urban landscape, a clean car represents not only care for but also a sacred personification of a prized possession. Car Wash Mediations transforms the routine cleaning of an urban vessel into a psychedelic ritual. Nas’s “Made You look” sets the scene in this video, as multi-hued soap suds manifest as formal action paintings behind the profile of the seated artist. A car wash is as good a site as any for spiritual transformation.
