Thick Skin / Shock Layer 2014 “My interest in the rich tradition of black quilting inspired this work. This piece consists of appropriated street lines (tape) removed off highway 66. This tape is often placed temporarily on fresh pavement until lines can be painted. I found the material appealing as it referenced worn skin and also a protective layer used on 60’s space capsules to protect the vessel from intense heat during re-entry, the Shock Layer. My connection with the material led to this rough and crude representation of violent and blunt experiences.” — Jefferson Pinder View fullsize Installation, ObjectsLeaf SilverJuly 11, 20142014
